Discerning the Times Digest and NewsBytes
On September 21st President Clinton proclaimed to the
United Nations (UN) General Assembly that "All of us...should take
action now to halt global climate change.... The most vulnerable members
of the human family will be first hurt, and hurt most, if rising
temperatures devastate agriculture, accelerate the spread of disease in
tropical countries, and flood island nations." These statements
assume global warming is a fact. Yet, science is increasingly showing
there is no need to take action now because there is no man-caused global
climate change (see Discerning the Times, March, 1999).
 |
| In 1841 Captain
Sir James Ross and Thomas Lempriere accurately marked the mean sea
level on a cliff of the Isle of the Dead in Tasmania (upper arrow).
The mean high tide today, which is represented by the sea level in
this picture (lower arrow), is 30 cm (11.8 in) lower than 1841,
disproving the myth that global warming is causing icecap melting
and the sea level to rise. |
Contrary to Clinton’s UN speech, climate change will
help, not devastate agriculture. The Center for the Study of Carbon
Dioxide and Global Change in Tempe, Arizona, has found that crop
production is increased by about 50% with a doubling of CO2, which is the
assumption that climate change is based upon. More importantly, crop
tolerance to stress such as droughts and pollution is dramatically
improved, permitting much greater crop production compared to normal
levels of CO2. If the temperature does increase, the crops will grow even
faster!
The improved growth with elevated CO2 levels is so
pronounced that Drs. Craig and Keith Idso, senior scientists in the Center
state, "In summation, the ongoing rise in the air’s CO2 content
should continue to enhance plant growth and development, particularly in
the face of resource limitations and environmental stresses that tend to
do just the opposite. In a nutshell, when it’s needed most, elevated CO2
helps the most."
Also contrary to Clinton’s UN speech, climate change
is not melting the polar icecaps, according to the October 8th issue of
the journal Science. It will therefore not raise the sea level by
the predicted 10 to 20 feet and flood coastal cities and islands. Since
the arctic icecap is floating, it cannot increase the ocean level because
it already has displaced all the water it can. Check it out. Place ice in
a glass and fill it to the very top with water. It will not overflow as
the ice melts.
Melting glaciers are also not a threat since they
account for only a few percentage points of ice on earth. Besides, over
the past 50 - 100 years there have been about as many advancing as
retreating glaciers.
Temperatures in Antarctica average about 50oC below
zero in its interior and about 20oC below zero along its coasts. It would
take a lot more warming than predicted to even start melting the antarctic
icecap. But the antarctic isn’t even warming. Over the past 25 - 50
years some recording stations have experienced a 2oC warming, while others
a 2oC cooling. Ironically, even the Environmental News Network, which is a
strong global warming advocate, stated on December 1, 1998, "The
west Antarctic ice sheet is not melting rapidly, is reasonably stable and
has been so for more than a century...."
Any concern of Greenland’s icecap melting was iced
when Pat Epps and Richard Taylor discovered two World War II B-17 Flying
Fortresses and six new P-38 Lightnings—268 feet below the ice’s
surface! The squadron was being ferried over to England on July 15, 1942
when a severe arctic storm forced them to land on the Greenland icecap.
The planes have been buried by a growing icecap the past 57 years!
When investigating this phenomenon, Dr. Robert Balling,
Director of the Office of Climatology at Arizona State University,
discovered a 2.25oF decline in temperature during the period. He notes
that "We should be skeptical of bold pronouncements permeating ‘conventional
wisdom’ about global warming."

WW II P-38 that was forced to land on the Greenland icecap in 1942.
The plane was buried 268 feed below the surface, icing the
assertions that global warming is melting the Greenland icecap. |
But that is not all. A recent discovery has fatally
disproved the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
report in 1995 that the sea level has risen by 10 - 25 cm this century! At
2:44 PM on July 1, 1841, after three years of careful measurement and
correction for changing barometric pressure, Captain Sir James Ross and
Thomas Lemprier struck a line in a rock cliff delineating mean sea level
(mean tide) on the 2 acre Isle of the Dead in Port Arthur, Tasmania.
Because there are no continents to affect tides at
Tasmania’s latitude south of Australia, Port Arthur is the perfect place
to mark the mean sea level. Today, the sea level (mean tide) is 30 cm
(11.8 in) below the 1841 mark—even after accounting for about a
2.5 cm geologic uplift since the mark was made!
Incredibly, the Clinton administration ignores this
condemning information. In an early session in the Earth Technologies
Forum 1999 last month, EPA’s Paul Stolpman proclaimed, "Critics
of taking action on climate change promote the idea of climate change as
an unproven theory. This is a diversionary tactic.... We cannot let nay-sayers
deflect us from the real policy debate. The real debate about climate
change is not, and should not be, about whether it exists or not, but
about what to do about it." This is how U.S. policy is made?
Global warming is not only absurd, it is a fraud. It is
nothing less than deception on a grand scale—designed to convince us
that we must relinquish our sovereignty and economy to the UN in what is
called global governance. V |
